Donald Wildmon: “If we lost California, the ‘culture war’ is over”

July 23, 2008 by Bryan

Donald WildmonAmerican Family Association founder and all around nut job, Donald Wildmon claims that the so-called ‘culture war’ would be over if California does not pass Proposition 8 - the anti-marriage, anti-family constitutional amendment.

Here’s what he had to say:

“If we lose California, if they defeat the marriage amendment, I’m afraid that the culture war is over and Christians have lost,” says Wildmon, a 30-year veteran of the culture war. “I’ve never said that publicly until now — but that’s just the reality of the fact.

“If the homosexuals are able to defeat the marriage amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman, then the culture war is over and we’ve lost — and gradually, secularism will replace Christianity as the foundation of our society,” he adds.

The vote in California, Wildmon explains, will affect the entire nation. “California is a big dam, holding back the flood — and if you take down the dam in California, it’s going to flood 49 other states,” he illustrates.

Now we all know that’s a load of bull - but think of what a great place the word would be. Instead of these right-wing extremist groups pouring all their cash into anti-gay causes, they’d actually put it towards something like helping to end poverty, feeding homeless and giving them shelter or heck, even proving assistance to heterosexual couples and their families who are divorcing at a rate of over 50%. God forbid they put their money towards anything other than anti-gay causes.

I hope we’re able to pick up a few more states but we can’t think this is over until it’s over.Anything could happen.

Can someone please clarify two things for me? What is this “culture war” we are supposedly in the midst of? And, where in the founding documents of our country does it state that we were founded on principles of Christianity?

The U.S. Constitution is quite clear in describing a separation of church and state over government regulations. Also, our country is a melting pot of culture so I don’t understand a culture war taking place.

A suggestion to these people (American Family Association) is that they actually travel across the country instead of staying in the confines of the “Bible Belt.” Perhaps a more accurate perception of our country can be formed.
