If what you say is true, then should people under other religions such as buddhism not be allowed to marry since they don’t go to churches, synagoges, nor mosques? If they get a right to call their marriage a marriage, then why not a same sex couple? And the idea of “man and women” is simply a social norm that the people have made, which can in fact change in time. Yes I know that to certain people’s churches, they will never recognize a same sex marriage as an actual marriage; however gays aren’t asking to be married under the church. They’re asking to be married under the law. Many religions don’t recognize a person marrying a second time (like after a divorce), however they still are aloud to call that second marriage a marriage, despite how religion feels about it.

It’s our fault because we simply don’t show up to the things that matter the most to our community. In Arizona, for instance, we had THOUSANDS of people attend our Pride festivals, and Rainbows festivals — where they spent money, got drunk, and claimed they had pride.

However, when our community had a lobby day, attempting to actually meet with our state representatives who make these awful laws, we praised ourselves when 70 people showed up. Our protests may attract a few hundred, but nothing in comparison to what an parade of men dressed in their underwear and booze brings.

I wonder, what shows we have pride, when we FIGHT and DEMAND our rights, or get drunk in our underwear because we’re too sad we don’t have them. For many in our community, we like being the victim, and so yes, being denied our basic civil rights is indeed OUR fault. No one is going to give them to us, we need to sober up and get them.

–> And I’d just like to point out I’m a 23 year old college student at Arizona State University. I have worked heavily on political campaigns here. In 2006, Arizona became (and remains) the FIRST and ONLY state ever to vote down a so-called marriage amendment. Certainly it passed in 2008, but the simple notion that we — in a heavily conservative state — were able to defeat such a disgusting amendment goes to show what we can do when we in fact sober up, and stop claiming a parade and rainbow flags is indeed “pride” — real pride is standing up for what you believe in.
