OUT Magazine’s Top 50 Most Powerful Gays: Anderson Cooper, Barney Frank and Ellen Top List

Power and Money have always been close companions, and the global economic crisis has only made them more so. But the Out Power 50 list has never been only about person wealth: congressman Barney Frank rose to the top this year because of his power over national financial policy. On the other hand, since just about everyone from Warren Buffet (not on our list — he’s not gay) to Dolce & Gabanna (also not on the list — they don’t live and work primarily in North America) has taken a personal financial hit, changes in person wealth generally didn’t affect rankings. As last year’s were, these were determined by: (1) Political clout; (2) cultural resonance; (3) individual wealth; and (4) current personal profile. New entries are marked with a star, and the arrows indicate change from last year’s rank.

David Cook Speaks Out Against Prop 8 (Video)

LOGO’s NewNowNext posted an interview with American Idol and American Music Award winner David Cook on Friday in which he talked about a variety of topics, including Proposition 8 and gay rights.

“You know… I was not able to vote for Prop 8 because I’m not a resident of Los Angeles but I would have loved to have seen it (go) the other way. Human rights is human rights and I don’t really see how sexuality parlays into whether or not you’re a human being. I grew up in a really cool area of the country where tolerance was kind of the norm. I can’t recall at any point in my life ever feeling uncomfortable about sexuality whether it be my own or anyone else’s…It’s an interesting time to be a homosexual in this country. I hope that very soon we get to this point where we look back now, [like] on women’s rights and that struggle in the 20’s – I hope this is another hurdle this country can overcome really quick.”

Ashton Kutcher On Prop 8 (Video)

Ashton Kutcher appeared on Real Time with Bill Maher and he had some things to say about Prop 8.

Kutcher: “We founded this country rebelling from a country that refused to separate church and state. The fact that Proposition 8 is even on the ballot is ridiculous! I don’t care what your spiritual religious beliefs are. It should not interfere with our government and our ability to do things through the government, ever. It’s unconstitutional.”

Drew Barrymore Joins CA Protests Against Prop 8 (Video)

Starting at Sunset Junction in Silver Lake at 6pm and arriving eight and a half hours later in West Hollywood at around 2:30am, the Los Angeles Prop 8. protest ended with a sit-in the middle of the street. Throughout the night, groups would join the protest as it made its way through Hollywood and environs. While passing through the Sunset Strip, the rally picked up everyone’s favorite angel, Drew Barrymore–and paparazzi– who marched with the approximately 3000 swing shift protesters. As the exhausted but defiant crowd occupied the intersection of San Vicente and Santa Monica, Drew took to the microphone, tearfully telling the assembled crowd, “I will fight with you!”

Earlier in the night, the protest swelled to 15,000 people. It’s the fourth continuous day of protests since Prop 8. was passed, outlawing gay marriage in California. Further protests are planned for tomorrow and the foreseeable future. (via Queerty)

The big weekend box office for High School Musical 3 proves that Disney knows not to mess with a winning thing, and why should it? The series’s profitable formula (40% Bollywood chastity, 35% ‘N Sync b-sides, and 25% total gayness) has paid off in spades. Perhaps, then, the threat of tinkering with this equation was what Disney had in mind when they cut what was apparently a Zac Efron-led musical sequence in a boys’ group shower (!), the existence of which came to light after an Ebay seller included pictures of the number in a cache of HSM3 photos. What cinematic contribution to homoerotica was lost when a cruel executive axed “Lather Up, Y’all”? Gaze upon the additional pictures after the jump, and muse upon what might have been.
