Another anti-gay, hypocritical Republican bites the dust.

In 1998, after President Bill Clinton admitted to having committed adultery with Monica Lewinsky, Ensign called on him to resign, saying, “He has no credibility left.”

In 2004, Ensign spoke on the Senate floor in favor of the proposed Federal Marriage Amendment, which would have barred states from recognizing same-sex marriage. Ensign said:

Marriage is the cornerstone on which our society was founded. For those who say that the Constitution is so sacred that we cannot or should not adopt the Federal Marriage Amendment, I would simply point out that marriage, and the sanctity of that institution, predates the American Constitution and the founding of our nation.

Now Senator John Ensign has issues of his own…

Ensign, 51, admitted Tuesday he had an extramarital affair with a woman who had worked for him. He would not identify the woman, but said she and her husband — who also worked for Ensign — had been “close friends.”

“Last year I had an affair,” the senator told reporters outside of his Las Vegas office. “I violated the vows of marriage. It’s absolutely the worst thing I’ve done in my life.”

Ensign said he knows “I have deeply hurt and disappointed my wife Darlene, my children, my family, friends, my staff and those who believed in me. And to all of them, especially my wife, I’m truly sorry.”

It should also be mentioned that Sen. John Ensign is a member of the Pentecostal International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, and is the only Pentecostal in the Senate. He attends a Foursquare church in northwest Las Vegas. According to The New York Times, during college at Colorado State, he became a born-again Christian and he and his wife, Darlene, were active in the Promise Keepers, an evangelical group.

In the state that continually proves their commitment to ‘traditional marriage’ with Elvis themed, 24-hour drive-thru weddings happening nearly every minute, Republican Governor Jim Gibbons has vowed to veto Domestic Partnership legislation for same-sex couples.

Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons says he would veto a pending legislative proposal aimed at giving same-sex domestic partners the rights and benefits that Nevada offers to married couples.

Asked about the measure now under consideration in the state Senate, the Republican governor says he would reject it if it reaches his desk because, “I just don’t believe in it.”

SB283 was authored by Sen. David Parks, D-Las Vegas, an openly gay state lawmaker who says it was amended to ensure that public employers wouldn’t have be required to provide health care benefits to a staffer’s partner.

However, the bill doesn’t prohibit a public or private employer from voluntarily providing such benefits.
