UPDATE @ 6pm: The Oregonian calls Oregon’s Senate race for Democrat Jeff Merkley removing the 12-year Republican Gordon Smith!!

Oregon Speaker of the House Jeff Merkley (D) is still in a neck and neck battle with sitting US Senator Gordon Smith (R). The latest results show that he is ONLY 800 votes behind. Most of the ballots that still need to be counted are in Lane and Multnomah Counties which are both heavily democratic. Read more

Right this second sides are arguing before a three judge panel in downtown Portland on whether or not a failed signature gathering attempt by out-of-state anti-gay groups will fly or not. Yeah, I said gayor of Portland. Portlandians overwhelmingly gave the thumbs up tonight to Sam Adams to be our next mayor.

Congrats Sam on a job well done! You made history tonight by becoming the first openly gay mayor of a top 40 city.
